The deck of the surveying vessel *Vanguard* hummed with the low, rhythmic vibration of the singularity drive. Standing before the observation portal, Captain Michael Vance watched the dust lanes of the Orion Spur spiral into the dark, silent abyss. Behind him, the main display terminal pulsed with a steady, crimson alert.
"Sensor resolution is dropping, Captain," reported Lieutenant Kael, her fingers flying across the glowing glass console. "The gravitational field near the anomaly is shifting faster than the core can model. We are seeing artificial harmonic echoes in the telemetry."
Michael turned, his eyes narrowing. "Echoes? Explain."
"It's not just cosmic noise," she said, looking up, a faint reflection of the display illuminating her face. "It's structured. Like a transmission, but repeating at the frequency of atomic decay. It's a signature, Captain. The core calls it the Dawnbringer."
Suddenly, the ship's overhead lights flickered, casting the bridge into a deep, violet shadow as a massive gravitational wave swept through the hull, dragging their consciousness toward the stars...
At the center of the glass-domed Citadel of Aethelgard, the delegates of the Outer Coalition sat in tense, heavy silence. The hololith in the middle of the room projected a spinning model of the Orion Spur, dotted with red tactical markers.
"The discovery of the anomaly changes everything," declared High Councilor Varis, his cybernetic optic glowing bright blue. "This is not a neutral artifact. It is a class-five technological threat. If the Syndicate secures the core, they will rewrite the trade lane agreements."
"And if we deploy fleet assets to quarantine it, we spark a war," countered the envoy from the Eridania Colonies. "Our shields cannot withstand a kinetic corridor barrage. We must negotiate."
